There’s nothing quite as refreshing as a tall cup of your favorite ice-cold draft beer while you’re sitting in the stands watching your favorite MLB team play ball. Ballpark beer has come a long ways over the years, with stadiums introducing new varieties and new sizes. But some MLB teams go the extra mile by offering a greater selection than others.
According to a report published by the Washington Post, the Seattle Mariners have the best beer selection in all of Major League Baseball. That’s a pretty bold statement given the fact that there are currently 29 MLB teams in the U.S. and one in Canada. So the next time you find yourself in the Emerald City, pick up some tickets for a Mariners game. Even if you aren’t a huge baseball fan, you can enjoy a massive selection of delicious beers!
It’s important to note that this report doesn’t necessarily mean the Seattle Mariners have the “best” beer in all of Major League Baseball. It simply means they offer a greater variety of brews than other teams and stadiums.
So, how did the Washington Post rank MLB stadiums’ beer choices? They actually used three different ranking factors to determine which stadiums came out on top, including quality (using stores posted at BeerAdvocate.com), locality, and uniqueness.
“Our rankings determine the overall status of beer available in each MLB stadium by considering three factors. Quality is determined by the number of beers ranked “very good” or better, according to BeerAdvocate.com. Locality is how many breweries represented are based in the same state as the team. Uniqueness is the number of breweries available only at one MLB stadium. Each of these rankings is given equal weight.”
While the Seattle Mariners were ranked as having the best selection of beer in all of Major League Baseball, the team with the worst selection was the New York Yankees. You can click on the link mentioned above for a complete list of the beer varieties offered by the Yankees, but it’s pretty abysmal. Shock Top Apple, Shock Top Lemonade, Smithwick’s, Stella Artois, and Bud Mango-Rita are just a few of of the sub-par brews sold at Yankee Stadium.
The beer lists were submitted by MLB teams or their concessionaires during the first three months of this season; many teams slightly alter their offerings as the season goes on.”
