There’s nothing quite like the frothy layer of foam on a glass of your favorite draft beer. The cool and refreshing texture mixed with flavors of hops and spices is like icing on the cake. Well, Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium is now offering beer foam to ballpark patrons.
For $10 bucks, you can get a 16-ounce cup of draft beer topped with a refreshing layer of foam. So, how does Dodger Stadium’s latest beer invention fare among patrons?
The primary function of Dodger Stadium’s beer foam is to keep the beverage cool. With summer temperatures in the ballpark topping over 90 degrees Fahrenheit, beer will begin to warm and spoil if it’s not consumed quickly. Let’s face it, a nice cold beer is far more enjoyable than a room temperature or lukewarm beer. Thankfully, this beer foam is designed to solve the problem of heated beer in the ballpark.
The beer foam comes out at a super-chilly 23 degrees Fahrenheit, which instantly cools the beer as it goes on top. What makes this foam even more impressive, however, is its insulating capabilities. While traditional draft beer foam begins to turn water and dissipate after a couple of minutes, this new foam is thicker and able to hold its shape well after pouring.
The folks over at Zagat performed a review of Dodger Stadium’s new beer foam to determine
whether or not it lived up to all the hype. “The foam is a lot stiffer than you’d expect, and the best way to get around it, we found, was to poke a hole in it, even if we still got foam on our nose. We thought the consistency would be more like a Frozen Coca-Cola, but then that would just be a beer slushie (mmmmm…beer slushie),” said Lesley Balla.
Several patrons interviewed after trying the beer foam claimed it was a deliciously refreshing topping that helped to keep their beer cool. The foam creates a thermal barrier of protection on top to preserve the beer’s coolness.
Like most things in life, you’ll never know if you like the new beer foam unless you try it for yourself. There seem to be fairly mixed reviews “floating” around out there with some people loving it and others disliking it. The next time you find yourself at a LA Dodger’s game, give it a try. Who knows, it might be the perfect addition to your already enjoyable baseball beer?
