Cleveland Browns’ Fan Creates ‘Johnny Man’z Ale’

A Cleveland Browns’ fan has created a homebrewed beer in honor of the former Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman-winner Johnny Manziel. The brew, rightfully named “Johnny Man’z Ale” is a Belgium-style golden ale complete with the soon-to-be NFL star’s picture on the label.
Johnny Man’z Ale is the brainchild of Browns’ fan Chris Slavin. Slavin, 33, brewed the beer at the local Brew Kettle, which offers people the opportunity to brew their own beer. But the real benefit of partaking in the Brew Kettle is the ability to create your own labels. Slavin obviously took advantage of this feature by creating an ingenious label depicting the young Johnny Football.
Slavin’s Johnny Man’z Ale depicts the former Texas A&M quarterback donning a Cleveland Browns jersey while drinking a beer through his face mask. Photos of Slavin’s bold label began popping up on social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter, at which point it eventually turned viral with large sports news organizations picking up the story.
So, what does Slavin hope to accomplish with his aptly named Johnny Man’z Ale brew? He’s not in for profit (which would probably be illegal given the name and label), but instead he’s trying to get a marketing job — and possibility a sit down with Manziel — from this experience. The media attention surrounding Slavin’s bold new brew will certainly increase his chances of nabbing a job in marketing, but it could also land him in legal trouble.
“I got a lot of people who want a bottle,” Slavin said. “But I’m pretty sure it’s totally illegal to sell them. I made them for my own personal use. “Hopefully I won’t hear from a lawyer or Manziel’s mom. The only thing I’m trying to get out of this is a job in marketing and to drink one with Johnny Manziel,” he added with a laugh.
Will Manzeil’s representatives come after Slavin for using the for using the former Texas A&M quarterback’s name and photo in his Johnny Man’z Ale? I guess it’s up to them, but assuming Slavin does not attempt to sell the brew, he should be okay. Besides, Slavin’s intentions are honorable and shouldn’t ruffle any feathers.
If you’re looking to get your hands on a bottle of Johnny Man’z Ale, you’re probably out of luck, because Slavin has no plans to distribute the brew. Of course, you could always make your own brew with a similar label as an alternative.
