Most Michigan residents are familiar with the massive bar/restaurant HopCat. With a massive selection of over 130 different beers on tap, it’s a dream come true for adventurous beer drinkers looking to test the waters with some of the lesser-known brews. Ever since it was first opened in Grand Rapids back in 2008, it’s grown into one of the state’s most popular breweries. Now, it looks like HopCat’s owners are looking to expand their venture by opening up a second location in Indiana.
A Little Bit About HopCat…
HopCat is not only one of the best all-around bars in Michigan. It’s one of the best bars in the country. From the moment you first step foot into the 9,000+square foot establishment, you’ll get the sense that you aren’t in a typical run-of-the-mill bar, and that’s exactly what keeps patrons coming back for more. The massively sized bar has over 130 different beers on tap, all of which are set up outside the restaurant where they are stored behind a Plexiglas barrier. This means pedestrians walking by HopCat can view the different beers before entering.
Second HopCat On The Horizon
So, why is is HopCat just now expanding into a second location? There’s no denying the fact that Indiana is a hot spot for craft beer. Residents here — and people traveling through — spend millions of dollars each year on craft brews. BarFly Ventures, owner of HopCat, hope to capitalize on this trend by opening a second bar in the heart of Broad Ripple.
“Broad Ripple’s history as a place with an artistic heart and musical soul made it the ideal area for us to open our first HopCat outside of Michigan,” said Mark Sellers, founder of HopCat. “We see HopCat as a gathering spot where people from all walks of life can come together to enjoy great food and drinks. We also look forward to showcasing the liquid art being produced by Indiana’s brewers,” wrote the company in a recent press release.
So, when can you expect to see the new HopCat establishment ready for business? There’s no official word yet on when the Indiana location will open, but we’re guessing it won’t take long, as the company is already accepting job applications. If you live in Broad Ripple area, take a stroll downtown to check on its progress. Assuming it does as well as the Grand Rapids’ location, it’s going to be one heck of a bar!
