Meet The Keurig of Beer, SYNEK

28-year-old beer-loving entrepreneur Steve Young of  St. Louis has invented an ingenious tap beer dispensing machine. SYNEK is being dubbed the “Keurig machine for beer,” in reference to its similar design and utility. Much like a Keurig machine, SYNEK dispenses small, single-serving amounts of fresh beer right into your cup (or glass).

Young launched his idea on the crowd-funding website KickStarter, with an initial goal of raising $250,000 to help fund his bold new idea. Young admitted this was a rather optimistic goal, but much to his surprise, people were eager to jump on board by supporting his campaign. Young’s SYNEK campaign has now raised over $485,000 — nearly twice the amount of his original goal.

So, how does SYNEK work? The device, which looks strikingly similar to the Keurig coffee machine, uses air-tight bags filled with draft beer. You can check out the video below for a demonstration on how the bags work, but they are basically connected to any standard tap where the draft beer is transported into the bag without being exposed to air. Protecting draft beer from exposure to air is essential to maintaining its freshness and carbonation.

Once full, the bag is then placed inside the SYNEK machine where it remains in a pressurized, temperature-controlled climate for an even greater level of freshness. The front-facing lever is pulled to dispense fresh draft beer straight from the machine.

You might be wondering what makes SYNEK different from a typical kegerator. For starters, it’s smaller and more compact — with Young noted that its size is comparable to a typical toaster. The beer bags are also interchangeable, allowing users to switch out to a new beer within minutes. While we still don’t know the retail price of the SYNEK machine, it’s safe to assume that it will cost less than your average kegerator.
