Oregon Man Creates ‘R-2-Beer-Me’

A beer-loving man from the Portland, Oregon has developed an ingenious new remote-controlled machine that dispenses beer with the click of a button.
Dubbed “R-2-Beer-Me,” the machine acts like a kegerator on wheels, but from the moment you first see it (image above) you’ll realize it’s much more. R-2-Beer-Me is the brainchild of beer-moving, tech junkie Charlie Wolff. The machine dispenses beer and has a real personality to it that’s almost charming — at least that’s what people are saying about Wolff’s invention.
According to Wolff, he came up with the idea while working at the real estate firm Cresa in the heart of Portland. When clients were enjoying food and beverages in the office, someone was forced to physically push around a cart. Wolff saw a problem and aimed to fix it by inventing a robot that could dispense beer (sorry, no snacks added yet).
“In a parallel universe, I had aspirations of building an RC lawn mower. Everyone has a garage project, right? So, I had put together a wheelchair base under radio control. At first I put a hand truck on the wheelchair and carried buckets of ice, a keg and snacks. Then I thought, why not put the kegerator right on top,” said Charlie Wolff, creator of the R-2-Beer-Me.
“As we continue to utilize the kegerator, he evolves. He’s turned into more of a robot – we dress him up for different holidays or occasions and sometimes he sports a camera, video interface, sound, and different mood lighting,” he added.
Wolff notes that his R-2-Beer-Me machine/android also has the capability to record and transmit streaming video. He didn’t reveal any details regarding this technology, but we’re assuming the machine as a built-in WiFi adapter to connect with nearby wireless networks, at which point the data is then transmitted to the Internet.
Clients at the Cresa real estate firm are overjoyed at the presence of the beer-dispensing machine. It’s a fun new element that adds more life and character to the office, which subsequently keeps clients coming back. Cresa isn’t a newcomer to the tech scene, as it works closely with numerous startup companies. Just a couple of weeks ago, the company sent a webcam-equipped drone flying over its office party.
